MARK RICHMOND · MONDO

The artist behind Outer Alley.

Mark Richmond is a fine artist and designer whose work bridges gallery art, murals and contemporary pop culture. He studied Fine Art and Graphic Design at San Diego State University and has worked professionally as an artist since 2006.

His visual language brings together the disciplined line work of Japanese ukiyo-e, the raw energy of graffiti and the graphic clarity of Pop Art. Acrylic paint, aerosol and ink are layered into bold surfaces built to be experienced both from across a room and inches away.

Richmond's work has appeared in galleries, public spaces and commercial installations across Southern California, including the San Diego International Airport and the immersive Harney Sushi murals. He has also served as a featured artist and spokesperson for San Diego ArtWalk.

PAINTED TO THE EDGE

The panel is part of the artwork.

The front is built in layers of paint, aerosol and detailed ink. The 1.5–2-inch wood sides are individually stained and antiqued, giving the finished work the presence of an object rather than a framed print.
